Cathay Pacific Terminal Changes at JFK Airport: What Travelers Need to Know

Cathay Pacific has moved its New York operations to Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Announced last month, the relocation aims to improve connections with other oneworld carriers, especially American Airlines.

The Hong Kong–based airline previously operated from Terminal 7. Its last departure from that terminal was on Jan. 15 at 12:45 a.m.; subsequent departures now use Terminal 8, the airport’s largest passenger terminal, which is roughly twice the size of Madison Square Garden.

“Moving our operations to Terminal 8 at JFK, the home of our oneworld partner American Airlines, will improve our passengers’ travel experience considerably,” said James Ginns, Cathay Pacific’s director of service delivery. He added that the terminal’s first-rate facilities and amenities, together with the connectivity benefits of the move, will help the airline deliver on its promise of a Life Well Traveled.

First- and business-class passengers and eligible Marco Polo Club members will gain access to the terminal’s dining, retail and entertainment options, as well as American Airlines’ lounges, including the Admirals Club and the Flagship Lounge. The Flagship Lounge is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen in April.

The renovated Flagship Lounge is designed to offer increased space, refreshed interiors, enhanced privacy and more personalized service. A new dining concept will introduce a seasonal, multi-course menu for guests.

This terminal change comes shortly after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a multibillion-dollar plan to modernize and upgrade JFK Airport’s facilities and infrastructure.
