British Airways has announced a multimillion-pound investment to enhance the dining experience in its World Traveller (economy) cabin.
The refreshed offering expands menu variety and introduces new meal formats designed for long-haul travellers. Features include a new four-course main meal, a second meal or substantial snack depending on flight duration, regionally inspired dishes tailored to destination, Magnum ice cream on selected daylight sectors, hot breakfasts on overnight services, movie snack boxes, complimentary drinks from the onboard bar, and other improved snacking options.
Until now, World Traveller guests were typically provided with a complimentary snack, a three-course or lighter meal, and hot or cold drinks depending on the flight schedule. The upgraded choices begin rolling out tomorrow and British Airways plans to refresh menus every six months to keep the selection varied and seasonally relevant.
“Our customers tell us that when they’re taking a long-haul flight, great food and beverages make a real difference to them. It’s a huge driver of customer satisfaction so we want to make sure we deliver a great experience. With this multimillion-pound investment we’ve focused on introducing more quantity and quality to the catering, delivering tasty meals and great snacking options throughout the flight,” said Carolina Martinoli, director of brand and customer experience at British Airways.
She added that the airline’s culinary team developed the new four-course main to retain flavour at 35,000 feet and that regional choices will reflect the route. The second meal varies by flight length: on some services passengers will receive a tasty sandwich, while on longer sectors a more substantial pizza wrap will be offered, both accompanied by additional snacks. To help customers manage when they eat, the airline has replaced the water cup with a sealed bottle during the first service and added Graze snack boxes on the longest flights. Magnum ice creams will be available on daylight departures from London, and a Tuck Box will be provided on inbound and overnight sectors.
Overall, the changes aim to increase both the quality and quantity of catering in World Traveller, offering travellers more flexibility, improved taste, and a wider selection of snacks and meal options throughout long-haul journeys.
