British Airways Celebrity Curated Music Playlists

Mick Jagger has curated one of several celebrity-created world music playlists for British Airways’ in-flight entertainment.

Passengers flying in March will hear Sir Mick’s selections, which include tracks by Salif Keita and Fela Kuti. In April, the airline will feature Rufus Wainwright’s picks alongside songs from recent albums by Angélique Kidjo, The Gloaming and Mostar Sevdah Reunion.

British Airways worked with Songlines magazine and its in-flight entertainment provider Spafax to assemble these world music playlists. The selections draw on celebrity interviews and Songlines’ Top of the World highlights of notable new releases.

“Who better to introduce our travellers to the current best and up-and-coming artists on the music scene than legends like Sir Mick Jagger,” said Richard D’Cruze, British Airways’ in-flight entertainment manager. “We believe these playlists will prove really popular, as our customers appreciate discovering new entertainment while they fly.”

“For many of us, flying provides rare downtime and the perfect opportunity to explore different music,” D’Cruze added. “Many customers tell us they note down the music on board and then go on to explore and enjoy more of that artist’s work.”

Additional playlists are planned, with future selections by Alexander McCall Smith, A.R. Rahman, Brian Eno, Jamie Cullum, Jon Snow and Steve Martin.
