Avianca Brazil Joining Star Alliance: What Travelers Need to Know

Avianca in Brazil will join the Star Alliance network this summer, allowing customers to book domestic flights across Latin America’s largest and most important market.

At Star Alliance’s mid-year Chief Executive Board Meeting earlier this month, hosted by LOT Polish Airlines, member airline CEOs approved a set of enhancements designed to improve the travel experience across the network and confirmed that Avianca in Brazil will become part of the Alliance on July 22.

“As a mature alliance with a comprehensive network and close relationships among member airlines, we are well positioned to deliver ongoing improvements that together enhance the Alliance travel experience,” said Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance.

“We are pleased to welcome Avianca in Brazil next month. Along with a number of new hub-to-hub services announced by individual members, this addition will strengthen network connectivity throughout the year,” Schwab added.

Avianca in Brazil currently serves 24 airports across the country and operates about 210 daily flights from its hubs at São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Brasília (BSB) and Salvador (SAL).

These network expansions are supported by recent codeshare agreements between member carriers, including partnerships between Air India and Air New Zealand, Air India and Avianca, Copa and TAP, and EVA Air and Turkish Airlines, further enhancing route options and connectivity for passengers across the Alliance.
