Avianca and EVA Air Launch New Codeshare Flights

Star Alliance member airlines EVA Air and Avianca began codeshare operations on Aug. 17, improving connections between Asia and Central America. Under the agreement, Avianca can sell seats on EVA-operated flights between Taipei (TPE) and three U.S. gateways—Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK) and San Francisco (SFO). Likewise, EVA passengers arriving from Asia can connect via those same U.S. gateways onto Avianca flights to San Salvador and other destinations in Central and South America.

The codeshare expands itinerary choices for travelers between Taiwan and the Americas by combining EVA’s transpacific network with Avianca’s regional reach. Passengers can connect to San Salvador on nearly 20 Avianca flights per week from the three U.S. gateways, and typical door-to-door travel time between Taipei and San Salvador via the United States is roughly 20 hours, including transit. EVA is also assessing opportunities to extend codeshares to additional cities in the region as demand and scheduling permit.

The partnership carries diplomatic and cultural significance as well: Taiwan and El Salvador maintain close ties, and enhanced air service supports both tourism and business exchange. El Salvador offers diverse natural landscapes, while San Salvador serves as the country’s political, financial and cultural hub—making it an important market for improved connectivity.

Since joining Star Alliance in 2013, EVA has expanded its global reach, increasing passenger services to more than 190 countries and over 1,300 destinations through a combination of its own routes and partner agreements. In addition to Avianca, EVA maintains codeshare partnerships with carriers including Singapore Airlines, Air Canada and United Airlines, among others, which collectively broaden options for travelers across multiple regions.
