Austrian Airlines announced last month that it will begin service to the U.S. West Coast on April 10, 2017.
The new route will link Los Angeles (LAX) and Vienna (VIE) up to six times per week during the summer season. Westbound flights to Los Angeles are scheduled to take about 12 hours and 30 minutes, while eastbound trips to Vienna should be slightly shorter — around 11 hours and 55 minutes — thanks to prevailing tailwinds.
In recent years Austrian Airlines has expanded its U.S. network despite discontinuing the Vienna–Dubai (DBX) service. Since early 2013 the carrier has added flights to Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA) and Newark (EWR), and it continues to operate routes to New York (JFK) and Washington Dulles (IAD).
“We will fly to the West Coast with our existing fleet and are already very excited about this new venture,” said Andreas Otto, chief commercial officer of Austrian Airlines, in a statement. “Initially, the Los Angeles–Vienna route will be served seasonally in the summer 2017 flight schedule.”
