Asiana First Class Review: Experience, Seat, and Service Guide

On the Ground: My transfer from Hong Kong was seamless. I made my way to the newly renovated Asiana/Star Alliance first class lounge, where I sampled the buffet while a guest chef from the Westin Chosun prepared grilled beef. Asiana has recently updated both its first and business class lounges; the first class lounge feels calm and restorative, while the business class space is livelier and busier with passengers engaged in various activities. Pre-flight: Boarding the Boeing 747-400, I was greeted by attentive Asiana flight attendants who immediately took my coat and stored my luggage for me. The first class seating impressed me: the layout offers single seats in the first three rows (1-1) and a 1-2-1 arrangement in the last row. As a solo traveler I appreciated the privacy of the single-seat rows. The seat converts into a fully flat 180-degree bed and pajamas are provided for added comfort. Seat controls are straightforward, and flight attendants will prepare the bed upon request. The entertainment controls become intuitive after a short learning curve; the screen is mounted above the footwell and power outlets are conveniently located for devices. (29/30)

In-flight: Meal service began with a warm canapé of escargot in tomato, followed by delicate fish carpaccio wrapped in cucumber, green pea soup with crabmeat, Caesar salad, and ravioli filled with goose liver. For mains there were two Western options — tenderloin with red wine sauce and vegetables, or grilled monkfish wrapped in prosciutto with vegetables — and I found the fish particularly enjoyable. A selection of cheeses, fresh fruit, and green tea panna cotta completed the Western course, while Chinese and Korean dishes were also available for those preferring regional flavors. The in-flight entertainment library is extensive, with many films and other options. About two hours into the flight the cabin lights were dimmed and preparations for sleep began; I slept soundly for roughly seven hours. Before landing there were several dining choices including a Korean meal, seafood lasagna, roasted duck breast, sandwiches, ramen, and dim sum — the dim sum was especially good. On certain flights a sushi chef prepares meals on board. The aircraft arrived on schedule, baggage was delivered promptly, and I was quickly on my way. (38/40)

The Experience: Asiana’s crew service stands out. Thoughtful details such as foot massages and availability of lint brushes contribute to a polished, comfortable journey and elevate the overall experience.
