Americans Choose Sunny Valentine’s Day Getaways, Allianz Survey Finds

Allianz Partners USA recently published its Top Valentine’s Day Destinations report, revealing that many Americans plan to celebrate love with trips abroad. This year’s data shows a 4% rise in international bookings and a 15% jump in overall Valentine’s Day travel searches compared with last year.

“It’s no surprise that after the holiday season, couples and ‘galentines’ are ready to leave the cold weather behind and head for palm-fringed beaches,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA. “A getaway is a memorable way to celebrate, and travelers should consider a travel insurance policy to help ensure a seamless trip. With the right coverage, you can be protected against unexpected delays, cancellations and baggage loss.”

The report found that 70% of itineraries were for domestic travel while 30% were international. Leading domestic destinations included Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, along with Phoenix, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Honolulu, Fort Myers and Los Angeles. On the international side, Mexico dominated the top spots with Cancún, San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. Other popular international destinations were Punta Cana, Oranjestad, Montego Bay, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Liberia, Nassau and San José, Costa Rica.

Allianz analyzed more than 900,000 itineraries for round-trip flights departing U.S. airports between Feb. 7–12 and returning Feb. 14–18 to compile the report.
