American Airlines Partners With Airportr for Luggage Pickup Service

American Airlines now offers a door-to-airport luggage check-in and delivery option in partnership with London-based service Airportr. The service is available on any of American’s daily flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and the United States, allowing departing passengers to have their bags collected from any London address and arriving passengers to receive their luggage delivered to any London address.

Pricing begins at £30 for the first item and £10 for each additional item. Customers can schedule a one-hour collection window and must book at least seven hours before their flight.

Airportr first launched a similar service with British Airways last year and has since expanded availability to all BA customers flying from both Gatwick (LGW) and Heathrow.

When a driver arrives to collect luggage, they weigh the bags, scan passengers’ passports and boarding passes, and place suitcases in coded, tamper-evident cases. After bags pass airport screening — which typically occurs about 90 minutes before departure — customers receive IATA baggage receipts confirming that the items are checked in with the airline.

Airportr designed its procedures in consultation with the UK Civil Aviation Authority and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration to ensure compliance with aviation security standards and regulations.
