American Airlines Expands Flights to Canada: New Routes & Schedules

American Airlines strengthens its ties with Canada with expanded service and improved schedules.

Starting this spring, American will launch new flights from its Chicago O’Hare (ORD) hub to Calgary (YYC) and Vancouver (YVR).

Daily service to Vancouver begins May 4, while seasonal service to Calgary begins June 7. In addition to these new routes, the airline will increase frequencies from the U.S. East Coast to eastern Canada and extend seasonal offerings to several popular Canadian destinations.

“We began service to Canada over 75 years ago, making it our longest-served international destination,” said Vasu Raja, vice president of network and schedule planning at American Airlines. “The country is filled with important businesses and exciting leisure destinations, so it’s only natural that we are adding more flights and providing better schedules to explore all that Canada has to offer.”

The Vancouver route will be operated with a Boeing 737-800, while the Calgary connection will be flown by an Embraer E175 operated by Envoy.

American also boosted winter connectivity by adding another daily flight between Phoenix (PHX) and Edmonton (YEG), bringing service to two daily flights through April 2. Beginning Feb. 15, the airline will add a trip between New York LaGuardia (LGA) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ). On May 4, a new flight from Washington, D.C. Reagan National (DCA) to Toronto will begin, and Philadelphia (PHL) will gain an additional frequency to Ottawa (YOW).

With these additions, American Airlines will provide up to 69 daily flights connecting seven Canadian cities with major U.S. hubs, including Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Philadelphia (PHL), Phoenix (PHX) and Washington, D.C. (DCA).
