Aloft Launches On-Demand Streaming Service for Music and Live Events

Aloft has launched an exclusive in-room streaming service called RoomCast, powered by Chromecast and developed with TeleAdapt. The program is currently in a pilot phase at Aloft New Orleans Downtown, where all 188 guestrooms are scheduled to have RoomCast available by the end of the summer. RoomCast lets guests stream their own content directly to the guestroom television with minimal setup and no need to create new accounts.

Built around simplicity and guest convenience, RoomCast uses a secure in-room wireless network and a media-streaming device connected to the TV. Each guest receives access to a dedicated wireless personal area network protected by a guest-specific password. After connecting to that secure network, guests can use the cast button in any cast-enabled app on their iOS or Android smartphone or tablet to send audio and video to the television. The viewing session is controlled entirely from the guest’s mobile device, so there’s no need to use a guestroom remote or install additional software. Mobile phones and tablets remain fully functional during streaming, allowing calls and messages to be received as normal.

Privacy and security are integral to the design. When a guest checks out, the system resets and a new password is generated for the next visitor, ensuring that no personal content or session data remains. This approach preserves guest privacy while delivering a familiar, user-friendly entertainment experience.

“Innovation is at the heart of the Aloft brand, and we are always striving to bring new technologies to our early-adopter guests first,” said Sarah Downing, vice president, global guest initiatives, Aloft Hotels. “In partnership with the forward-thinking team at TeleAdapt, we are proud to introduce RoomCast powered by Chromecast at Aloft New Orleans Downtown. It’s a simple, safe and secure way for guests to stream their favorite content to the television. It’s the future of in-room entertainment, now.”

TeleAdapt emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing a hospitality-ready streaming solution. “We work hard to develop products that meet the unique needs of hotel guestroom applications, but that cannot be done in a vacuum. The Starwood teams’ support with the development of RoomCast was absolutely key,” said Neil Betterton, vice president of global product development, TeleAdapt.

RoomCast’s combination of easy setup, secure guest networks, and mobile-first control aims to modernize in-room entertainment while avoiding the friction of account creation or complex configuration. By leveraging Chromecast’s casting capabilities and TeleAdapt’s hotel-focused hardware and integration expertise, Aloft delivers a guest-centered streaming option that matches how travelers already use their personal devices.
