Qatar Airways has expanded its modern fleet to 146 aircraft with the delivery of the world’s first Airbus A350 XWB and the airline’s fourth Airbus A380. The new A350 is the first of 80 on order, while the A380 marks the fourth of 13 aircraft the carrier has ordered. The A350 XWB is scheduled to begin service this month on the Doha (DOH) to Frankfurt (FRA) route.
“We take immense pride in taking delivery of two aircraft at the same time joining our modern and dynamic fleet that is connecting the world,” said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways. “As 2015 commences, we are looking forward to a new period of enhanced growth with our fleet setting fresh benchmarks for the aviation industry.”
With the A350 XWB now in its lineup, the Gulf carrier becomes the first airline worldwide to operate every family in Airbus’s current commercial portfolio, including the A320, A330, A340, A350 and A380. This milestone underlines Qatar Airways’ commitment to fleet renewal and to offering passengers the latest in comfort, efficiency and technology across its global network.
The introduction of the A350 XWB brings advanced fuel efficiency, reduced noise and improved passenger comfort through a quieter cabin and enhanced air quality systems. Meanwhile, the A380 continues to serve as the carrier’s flagship long-haul aircraft, providing spacious cabins and premium onboard amenities that support Qatar Airways’ focus on elevated passenger experience.
These deliveries strengthen the airline’s capacity to support expanding routes and increasing demand while aligning with industry trends toward more fuel-efficient, lower-emission aircraft. By investing in a mixed fleet of narrowbody and widebody Airbus models, Qatar Airways aims to optimize route economics and offer appropriate aircraft for a wide range of market needs, from short-haul to ultra-long-haul services.
The addition of the A350 and A380 also supports operational flexibility. The A350’s long-range capability and efficient performance make it well suited for high-demand long-haul routes, while the A380 remains an ideal platform for high-capacity sectors where premium product and passenger comfort are priorities.
As the airline integrates these aircraft into regular service, passengers can expect to experience the benefits of newer cabin designs, improved inflight features and the environmental advantages associated with the latest-generation airframes and engines. Qatar Airways’ continued fleet expansion underlines its strategy to grow responsibly while maintaining a competitive edge in international aviation.
