Aeroflot and Aerolineas Argentinas have signed a codeshare agreement designed to strengthen both carriers’ presence in Russia and Argentina. Pending regulatory approval, the agreement will allow Aerolineas Argentinas to place its AR code on Aeroflot-operated flights between Moscow (DME) and Buenos Aires (EZE) via Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN). At the same time, Aeroflot will add its SU code to Aerolineas Argentinas-operated services between Buenos Aires and Moscow, also routed through Madrid and Barcelona.
The arrangement is intended to improve connectivity for travelers by offering seamless booking and coordinated schedules across the two networks. Passengers flying from Russia to Argentina will gain easier access to Aerolineas Argentinas’ domestic destinations beyond Buenos Aires, while travellers from Argentina will benefit from expanded options to reach Moscow and onward connections within Russia via Aeroflot’s network.
“This agreement with Aeroflot will offer our customers unparalleled access to the Russian market and open new opportunities for Russians traveling to Buenos Aires or elsewhere in Argentina thanks to our strong domestic network,” said Mariano Recalde, president and CEO of Aerolineas Argentinas. He emphasized that the codeshare will leverage Aerolineas Argentinas’ domestic reach to provide more convenient onward connections for international visitors.
“We look forward to a successful relationship with Aerolineas Argentinas,” said Natalya Teimurazova, director for external relations and alliances at Aeroflot. “We are pleased to offer customers a smoother and more convenient experience when travelling between Russia and Argentina. We expect this agreement will open new opportunities for passengers of Aeroflot and Aerolineas Argentinas.”
Beyond the immediate benefits for ticketing and scheduling, the partnership is expected to create operational synergies and provide passengers with coordinated services such as streamlined baggage handling and aligned frequent flyer opportunities where applicable. By combining selected flights and schedules, both carriers aim to offer more competitive travel times and improved transfer options through their shared gateways in Madrid and Barcelona.
Customers should note that the codeshare will be implemented subject to the usual regulatory approvals and any relevant operational arrangements between the airlines. Once in effect, travelers will be able to book itineraries using either carrier’s flight numbers, simplifying travel planning and potentially increasing available flight choices between the two countries.
This collaboration reflects a broader trend in the aviation industry where airlines use codeshare partnerships to expand market reach and improve connectivity without immediately adding new routes. For passengers, the practical outcome is typically greater flexibility, more frequent schedule options, and simplified connections when travelling between regions served by partner carriers.
Both airlines have highlighted their commitment to enhancing customer experience through this partnership, focusing on smoother journey planning and better access to each other’s networks. Travelers planning trips between Russia and Argentina are advised to check with either carrier for the latest schedule information and any updates regarding the codeshare’s launch and operational details.
