Arrival/Check-In: After an early-morning flight, we arrived at the Sofitel around 9 a.m., well before standard check-in. The front desk offered to call when a room became available and promised to put a rush on our request. The doorman recommended several nearby breakfast spots and pointed out a shopping district within easy walking distance where I could pick up a few forgotten essentials.
A few hours later, still ahead of normal check-in time, I returned to find the front desk staff had upgraded me to the presidential suite so I could settle in immediately. The unexpected upgrade was a generous gesture and greatly appreciated after a tiring trip.
Guest Quarters: Entering the suite, I was impressed by the design and finishes, though my first priority was the bed. I quickly tested the mattress and pillows and fell into a deep, restorative nap.
After sleeping, I took a shower. The separate shower offered both a ceiling-mounted rain head and a handheld option with a comfortable temperature range. I would have preferred slightly stronger pressure, but it was satisfactory. The following day I used the bathtub, enjoying the built-in wall television while soaking away travel aches.
The suite had two large flat-screen televisions, one in the bedroom and one in the living area. The living space included a comfortable sofa bed, additional seating and a work desk. There was no balcony, but the large inward-opening windows provided fresh air and a spectacular view.
Services/Amenities: The hotel’s fitness center stood out as one of the best I’ve encountered. While it isn’t open 24 hours, the long regular hours and willingness to extend access on request were convenient. The gym was spacious, spotless and well equipped with free weights and resistance machines comparable to standalone health clubs; trainers were available on site. The property also offered a sizable pool, plus two levels of outdoor seating that were well maintained and offered attractive views. Inside, the restaurant and bar featured live music in the evenings. The doormen were efficient at securing taxis; we never waited long to catch one.
The Experience: The Sofitel’s design and service reflect clear attention to guest comfort. Staff consistently anticipated needs and delivered high-quality service. A doorman proudly described the benefits of the hotel’s location, though for my stay the property itself provided everything I wanted without feeling any need to venture far.
