Aer Lingus Adds Mood Lighting to Improve In-Flight Experience

Aer Lingus is equipping its fleet with mood lighting developed in collaboration with Cobalt Aerospace. To date, the airline has installed the system on 25 aircraft and plans to fit the remaining planes during routine maintenance checks.

The LED lighting system offers customizable settings that align with the Aer Lingus brand, ranging from vibrant blue to soft lavender. It is designed to create a flexible cabin atmosphere, providing both ambient and functional lighting suited to each phase of the journey—from boarding and dining to rest and arrival.

Mike Rutter, Chief Operating Officer at Aer Lingus, said the new lighting will enhance the in-flight experience for guests. He noted that the investment builds on recent improvements across the business, including a refreshed brand launched earlier this year, aimed at strengthening the airline’s value proposition and guest experience as part of its goal to be Ireland’s only four-star carrier.

Rutter highlighted other enhancements introduced by the airline in recent years: the rollout of WiFi on A330 aircraft, automated check-in and bag drop at Dublin Airport, Business Class upgrades with fully lie-flat beds, and improvements to economy catering. The mood lighting system is the latest initiative to improve onboard comfort and atmosphere for passengers.
