Adventures by Disney, known for delivering stress-free, guided group vacations, has expanded its river cruise offerings with AmaWaterways for 2017. The line will extend its popular season on the Danube River and introduce new sailings along the Rhine River, including a food and wine–themed itinerary designed for adults.
Culinary director John State and master sommelier Brian Koziol collaborated with Adventures by Disney to develop an eight-day, seven-night cruise that visits Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Their goal was to bring the high-quality food and beverage experiences familiar to Disney theme park guests onto a scenic river voyage through the heart of Europe.
“At Adventures by Disney we’ve had an incredibly successful first season of European river cruise vacations,” said Ken Potrock, senior vice president, Adventures by Disney. “For 2017 we dreamed even bigger, expanding our offerings to include not only our already popular Danube sailings, but also exciting new experiences along the Rhine River. By adding this new food and wine–themed sailing we’re able to give our adult guests a more tailored way to travel with us, and the lineup of experiences we’ve planned for this epicurean adventure allows us to showcase the region’s rich culinary traditions in a luxuriously delicious way.”
The adult-only itinerary departs from Basel, Switzerland, next October and focuses on immersive food and beverage experiences both onboard and ashore. Highlights include guided vineyard tours, onboard wine seminars, intimate gourmet demonstrations and hands-on workshops. Guests will stroll the charming streets of Riquewihr, France, on a guided food-focused walking tour, learn to make tart flambé paired with local beers and Alsatian wines, participate in a French patisserie class in Strasbourg, explore German vineyards and cozy festive pubs, and tour the Heineken brewery in Amsterdam with tastings plus a sample of a caramel waffle and craft cocktails.
Adventures by Disney’s 2017 river portfolio features 15 sailings along the Danube and Rhine rivers, offering an all-inclusive, hassle-free vacation product. Travelers can customize their experience by choosing from a selection of activities offered both onboard and at ports of call. Families and active travelers can also enjoy Rhine River itineraries aboard the new AmaKristina river ship, which provides immersive ways to explore Europe.
