As part of a new social media engagement initiative launched this month, the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) invites travelers to share their favorite Hawaii vacation memories by tagging #LetHawaiiHappen in their social media posts.
“Everyone knows the Hawaiian Islands for their natural beauty, but the deeper story lies in the personal moments that make a trip unforgettable,” said Jay Talwar, chief marketing officer of HVCB. “The islands’ distinctive culture, traditions and experiences are best expressed through the memories families, couples and friends create while they relax, explore and embrace the spirit of aloha. #LetHawaiiHappen encourages both residents and visitors to show their friends and family what Hawaii truly feels like by sharing the images and stories from their own journeys across the islands.”
HVCB will select and feature user-generated social media content tagged #LetHawaiiHappen across its marketing channels. Submissions are being gathered from people who live on or have visited the six major Hawaiian Islands—Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lānai and Hawai‘i Island—and will be curated for use on HVCB’s website, gohawaii.com, as well as in its print, digital and social media campaigns.
The campaign highlights authentic visitor experiences, from quiet moments on remote beaches to cultural celebrations, outdoor adventures and family gatherings. By showcasing real photos and firsthand stories, HVCB aims to inspire future travelers with genuine perspectives on what makes each island unique while preserving the integrity of local traditions and communities.
Participants who tag their posts with #LetHawaiiHappen contribute to a growing gallery of memories that celebrates the diversity of island life. HVCB’s curation process seeks images and stories that reflect respectful engagement with the islands—moments that capture natural beauty, cultural connection and responsible travel practices.
Through this initiative, HVCB hopes to foster a sense of shared discovery and encourage visitors to approach their trips with openness and curiosity. The collected content will help prospective travelers envision experiences across Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lānai and Hawai‘i Island, offering inspiration grounded in real-life moments rather than staged promotion.
By amplifying genuine voices and photos, the campaign supports sustainable tourism messaging that balances visitation with care for local environments and communities. HVCB’s promotion of #LetHawaiiHappen underscores the bureau’s intent to present Hawaii as a place of meaningful encounters—where the best travel memories are created by slowing down, connecting with people and letting the islands reveal themselves naturally.
