Global Arts Festival Comes to Spanish Island This Summer

The WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) festival will take place in Spain’s Canary Islands from November 5–8. WOMAD Fuerteventura will be held in the town of Gran Tarajal on the island of Fuerteventura. This international festival uses music, arts and dance to promote cross-cultural understanding and offers a variety of interactive activities for both children and adults.

All festival events are free of charge. Program highlights include musical workshops, storytelling and group singing led by visiting performers. Children can participate in hands-on creative sessions where they work alongside artists to build large-scale sculptures and make wearable or playable objects. These workshops focus on environmental themes and use recycled materials, culminating in a children’s parade at the end of the festival.

In addition to workshops and performances, the festival features an international marketplace showcasing regional foods and handcrafted goods, providing opportunities to sample diverse flavors and purchase artisanal items. The relaxed seaside setting of Gran Tarajal offers a welcoming backdrop for family-friendly activities and cultural exchange.

WOMAD Fuerteventura emphasizes accessibility and community participation, encouraging visitors of all ages to engage with artists, attend free concerts, and join workshops that foster creativity and environmental awareness. The festival’s programming balances performances on multiple stages with smaller, interactive sessions designed to inspire and educate.

Attendees can expect a vibrant mix of musical styles from around the world, dance performances, storytelling, and visual arts displays. The event’s focus on sustainability is reflected not only in the children’s recycled-material projects but also in the broader festival ethos, which encourages responsible consumption and respect for the island environment.

Families attending the festival will find practical offerings such as family-oriented schedules, outdoor spaces suitable for children, and opportunities for hands-on learning. Local vendors and artisans bring a regional flavor to the marketplace, while international performers contribute to a diverse program that celebrates global cultural traditions.

WOMAD Fuerteventura is designed to be an inclusive cultural experience that welcomes both residents and visitors. By combining free public performances, educational workshops and community-driven activities, the festival aims to foster connection, creativity and awareness across generations.
