Arrival/Check-In: For a seamless, VIP arrival, the Grand Hyatt Card Blanc team can escort you from gate to hotel. After my China Airlines flight from Taipei, an airport representative in a red jacket greeted me holding a Grand Hyatt sign. I was transported in a golf cart with my luggage through immigration and customs to my driver and quickly on my way downtown to the hotel.
At the Grand Hyatt, front desk manager Jake McHugh welcomed me and personally escorted me to my suite. “This is my favorite room, Mr. Gallagher,” he said, and we talked about the local protests, dining options and transportation. I appreciated the conversation and later spent mornings walking among the peaceful demonstrators to better understand their purpose and situation.
Jake recommended I relax on the Club Floor on the 30th level to unwind after travel. The Club Lounge is a major perk of the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, offering a generous buffet, attentive staff and expansive views of Victoria Harbour—an ideal spot to rest, snack and refresh before heading out.
Guest Quarters: The suite’s updated, understated design felt both modern and inviting, with a touch of Park Hyatt simplicity. The corner suite features a tan marble foyer, dark wood trim, light wood cabinetry and leather-paneled walls. Clean lines and a neutral palette create a calm atmosphere, and welcome jars of apricots and pistachios were a thoughtful touch after a long journey.
The suite’s layout impressed me: the hall bathroom houses the separate commode, allowing privacy for anyone using the main bathing area. The larger bathroom opposite the powder room includes a deep, square Japanese-style tub with a cascading faucet positioned to look past the king bed toward the harbour—privacy shades provide full discretion. Twin sinks and a spacious shower with excellent water pressure and precise temperature controls completed the bathing experience.
Bathroom amenities were comprehensive: toothbrush, earplugs, mouthwash, cotton swabs, makeup pads, a nail file, comb, scissors and even a scrunchie. The selection reflects thoughtful attention to guest needs and a distinctly considerate design approach.
Services/Amenities: Service at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is consistently excellent, from directions and restaurant recommendations to practical assistance with transit. While protest-related traffic made daytime travel slow, the hotel’s location at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre keeps you close to the Wan Chai MTR station and within a short walk of the Star Ferry terminal to Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui), both convenient alternatives to taxis. The Central Ferry terminal is about a 20-minute walk; I used the Aqua Luna on a weekend cruise to Stanley Market.
Dining options are extensive. I enjoyed Grissini, a delightful Italian restaurant where I celebrated a birthday, and One Harbour Road for distinguished Cantonese cuisine and dim sum. One Harbour Road is a local favorite celebrating its 25th year alongside the hotel; Chef Tim, a long-standing member of the kitchen, is renowned for his Cantonese and dim sum expertise. The ground-level Champagne Bar also provides lively evening entertainment and a stylish setting for drinks.
The Experience: The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong remains a dependable and welcoming address in the city. With renovation plans for guestrooms and the Club Lounge underway, the property will only strengthen its position among the city’s top hotels. Equally notable is the staff: many team members have served the hotel throughout its 25-year history, contributing to a consistent and familiar level of service.
