Track the Moon and Sun: Daily Positions, Phases, and Rise Times

An assemblage of boutique expeditions for conscious, informed travelers, Soma Journeys was founded by former television host Cristy Elmendorp to offer authentic experiences in some of the world’s most spiritually resonant places. This year the company introduces two new journeys designed to deepen cultural understanding and personal reflection.

The first itinerary, Dragons and Thunder: A Himalayan Adventure in the Magical Kingdom of Bhutan, is presented as the “sun” program and runs April 12–19. Focused on cultural immersion and the spiritual heritage of the Himalayas, this trip includes guided meditation sessions, daily yoga, scenic mountain hikes, and visits to significant Buddhist temples and monasteries. The carefully paced schedule allows time for both contemplation and exploration, with local guides sharing insights into Bhutanese traditions and practices. Prices start at $5,950 per person and include meals and accommodations in selected 4- and 5-star hotels.

The second offering, the “moon” program titled Sacred Myths and Dreams: A Buddhist Pilgrimage to Tibet’s Mount Kailash, is scheduled for Aug. 31–Sept. 22. This 23-day pilgrimage follows an ancient route around Mount Kailash in Western Tibet’s Ngari region, a landscape revered by several faiths as a meeting point of heaven and earth. The itinerary emphasizes contemplative practice and the pilgrim’s experience, combined with practical support for remote travel. Rates begin at $9,950 per person and cover in-country flights, local drivers, camping equipment where needed, meals, and accommodations in carefully chosen boutique and 5-star hotels.

Both programs are tailored for travelers seeking meaningful, well-supported journeys into areas of deep cultural and spiritual significance. Small group sizes, experienced guides, and thoughtfully designed schedules aim to create an environment for learning, reflection, and authentic exchange with local communities.

These new departures expand Soma Journeys’ range of offerings while maintaining a focus on responsible travel, cultural respect, and personal enrichment. Participants should prepare for varying altitudes and remote conditions on the Himalayan and Tibetan itineraries, and consult trip details for health and travel requirements.
