Norwegian Arctic Photography Expedition: Plan Your Adventure Now

Join One Ocean Expeditions on June 13, 2016, for a nine-night photographic workshop aboard the ice-strengthened research vessel Akademik Sergey Vavilov. Departing from and returning to Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen in the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago, this expedition pairs hands-on instruction from a team of professional photographers with guided exploration of Arctic waters and coastline.

The itinerary follows the ice edge to maximize opportunities for observing polar wildlife, including polar bears and seals. Other likely sightings include beluga whales, reindeer around Bourbonhamna, bearded and ringed seals near Krossfjorden, walrus on Prince Charles Island, and the massive Brünnich’s guillemot colony at Alkefjellet in Hinlopen Strait, where more than 100,000 birds breed. Guests also take part in guided shore excursions and zodiac outings into fjords, inlets, and coastal areas, with presentation sessions and practical photography guidance throughout the voyage.

Rates begin at $6,495 per person, based on double occupancy. This price includes all meals, accommodations, guided walks and shore excursions, presentations, and the use of wet weather gear. Optional activities such as sea kayaking, as well as flights to and from Oslo or Tromsø, are not included.

This expedition is designed for photographers of all levels who want to improve their skills shooting in extreme light and challenging conditions while experiencing Arctic wildlife and landscapes. Small-group instruction, expert-led excursions, and the ship’s proximity to wildlife habitats provide excellent chances to practice techniques for exposure, composition, and working with natural light in polar environments.

Space is limited, and those interested should contact One Ocean Expeditions to confirm availability and reserve a place on the June 13 departure.
