You may already be charmed by Colorado — but if you haven’t explored it fully, a wonderful place to start is Loveland, with a stay at nearby Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch. A working cattle ranch since the 1920s, Sylvan Dale spans about 3,200 acres of dramatic terrain that suits both leisure escapes and corporate retreats. Accommodations range from cozy cabins to larger guesthouses: the one-bedroom, one-bath Fireside Cabin offers a private deck for quiet mornings, while Mama J’s Guest House provides four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a full kitchen, wood-burning stove, screened porch and outdoor deck for family or group stays.

Sylvan Dale offers full-service dude ranch experiences including the Great Grownup Getaway, Dude Ranch Vacations, Company Retreats and Cowgirl Roundups. Activities are varied and well organized: guided horseback trail rides, evenings around campfires with s’mores, bass fishing, rock climbing, guided nature walks, line dancing, on-site massages, whitewater rafting and trap shooting. Western riding instruction is available and guests often ride the same horse for the duration of their stay. Experienced ranch staff, including Horse Operation Foreman Dustin Call, help ensure each visit is safe, educational and memorable.
Before or after your ranch stay, take time to explore downtown Loveland. The Foundry Plaza area and nearby streets offer a lively mix of shops, galleries and restaurants. Public art is a highlight — keep an eye out for murals and sculptures throughout town, including works like Ladyface by Wildrose Hamilton, My Favorite Things by DAAS and Elsie the Cow by Ines. For a self-guided route, the Otocast public art app provides audio and maps of many local installations.

Lovers of craft beverages should visit MeadKrieger on Washington Avenue for a tasting of traditional honey mead, or sit down at the family-run Sky Bear Brewery and Pub for a cider or a beer-based cocktail. Dining options cover a wide range of flavors: Betta Gumbo serves Cajun and Low-Country fare, Cactus Grill offers Southwestern specialties, and Taste Local Cafe features scratch-made dishes like Mountain Fog French Toast for a hearty breakfast or brunch.
Before you leave, make time for Loveland Museum and the Benson Sculpture Garden to appreciate local history and outdoor art. For a memorable keepsake, stop by the Loveland Visitor Center and add a lock to the Love Lock sculpture in front of the building; if that spot is full, a second Love Lock sculpture is available at Lake Loveland. These local attractions, combined with a ranch stay, make for a balanced visit that highlights Colorado’s outdoors, culture and small-town charm.
