July Airport Updates: Flight Changes, Delays & Travel Alerts

Gate Delivery Arrives

Gate huggers, take note: new app-powered services are starting to make it possible to order food or merchandise from anywhere inside an airport and have it delivered to your gate — even to the power outlet where you’re charging. Airport Sherpa launched gate delivery at Baltimore-Washington International Airport in July, and AtYourGate is scheduled to begin operations at San Diego International Airport in August. Both services add an in-airport delivery fee, but frequent travelers say the convenience often outweighs the cost.

Cue the Croissants

A new 24-hour bakery at United Airlines’ Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport is producing croissants, macarons, bagels, gourmet chocolates, doughnuts and a wide range of pastries for the Mélange Bakery Café (near Gates 90–91) and for the 55 restaurants, bars and food markets included in the terminal’s $120 million renovation.

The bakery was created with input from master pastry chef and chocolatier Jacques Torres and is staffed by two executive pastry chefs plus 27 bakers and chocolatiers working around the clock. At 1,400 square feet, it may be among the first full-time production bakeries operating inside an airport terminal.
