Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has ordered three additional Airbus A330-300 aircraft, increasing its A330 fleet to ten. Based at Muscat International Airport (MCT), the airline currently operates seven A330s: four A330-200s configured for 216 passengers and three A330-300s seating 230. The three new A330-300s will be deployed on long-haul services and configured with six first class seats, 20 business class seats and 204 economy seats.
Oman Air’s A330 family has become a core part of the carrier’s long-haul strategy thanks to its efficiency, reliability and passenger appeal. According to Wayne Pearce, CEO of Oman Air, the additional aircraft will support the airline’s growth plans while maintaining high levels of comfort and operational performance on longer routes.
The expanded A330 fleet will support Oman Air’s existing long-haul network to key destinations across Europe and Asia. Current routes served by the airline include London (LHR), Paris (CDG), Zurich (ZRH), Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Milan (MXP), Bangkok (BKK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Jakarta (CGK) and Manila (MNL). Adding three A330-300s strengthens the carrier’s capacity and scheduling flexibility on these trunk routes, helping meet growing passenger demand and enhancing connections through its Muscat hub.
Configuring the A330-300s with a three-class cabin mix aims to balance premium comfort and economy capacity. The compact first class and generous business class offerings cater to corporate and premium leisure travellers, while the sizeable economy cabin supports high-volume markets. Such a layout reflects Oman Air’s focus on delivering a competitive product across different traveller segments while optimizing aircraft utilization on medium- and long-range sectors.
Operational advantages of the A330 family include strong fuel efficiency for its class, proven reliability in various operating environments, and relatively low trip costs compared with larger widebodies. These attributes make the type suitable for both established long-haul sectors and expanding services where flexibility and cost control are important. For Oman Air, which serves a mix of European and Asian city pairs, the A330-300 provides the right balance of range, capacity and economics to sustain growth.
With the arrival of the three new A330-300s, Oman Air will be better positioned to adjust frequencies, introduce additional capacity on high-demand sectors, and maintain operational resilience during peak travel periods. The reinforcement of the A330 fleet also supports the airline’s broader network strategy from Muscat, aiming to strengthen inbound and outbound connectivity for both leisure and business travel.
In summary, the Airbus order expands Oman Air’s proven A330 fleet, enhancing its ability to serve long-haul routes efficiently while offering a comfortable onboard experience across first, business and economy cabins. The move aligns with the carrier’s growth objectives and its commitment to reliable, passenger-focused services out of Muscat.
