Easter Celebration Tour in Guatemala: Semana Santa Highlights

Los Angeles–based Bella Guatemala Travel has designed a 10-day Easter-themed spring tour that artfully blends ancient Mayan traditions with contemporary Guatemalan culture. The itinerary centers on the dramatic Holy Week processions—most notably the renowned celebrations in Antigua, considered among the largest and most spectacular of their kind worldwide. Participants will witness hand-carried floats, traditional music, religious iconography and vibrant alfombras (ornamental carpets) crafted from flowers, colored sawdust and plants.

Alongside the Easter celebrations, the journey explores Guatemala’s archaeological and natural highlights. Travelers will hike through the ruins and jungle of Tikal National Park to experience its towering pyramids and Mayan heritage. A scenic boat crossing of Lake Atitlán provides visits to local Mayan women’s weaving cooperatives, where traditional textile techniques and handicraft production are demonstrated. The program also includes a tour of a historic coffee plantation with 130 years of cultivation history, a zipline adventure in a protected nature reserve, and time to visit the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.

Market time is built into the schedule for Chichicastenango, Central America’s largest open-air market, where visitors can shop for handmade jewelry, woven textiles, pottery, carved wooden figures and other artisanal goods. The itinerary also allows exploration of well-preserved 17th-century Spanish Baroque colonial churches and their surrounding plazas.

The trip is led by archaeologist and explorer José Antonio González and naturalist and environmentalist Emilio Faillace, ensuring expert insight into both cultural history and local ecosystems. Group size is limited to 16 guests, creating an intimate experience with personalized attention from bilingual guides.

Included in the tour price are luxury accommodations, three meals per day, internal flights and ground transportation, entrance fees, bilingual tour guides, taxes and gratuities. International airfare to and from Guatemala is not included. Prices start at $5,095 per person, based on double occupancy.
