JetBlue is moving forward with plans to add 12 new slot pairs at Ronald Reagan National Airport. If regulators grant final approval, the airline will introduce a dozen additional round‑trip flights from DCA, primarily serving destinations not currently offered from the Washington, D.C. airport. Once these slots are in place, JetBlue could operate up to 30 round‑trip flights per day at Reagan National.
“The JetBlue experience is about serving the under‑served with affordable, award‑winning, nonstop service to places people want to visit, not routing passengers through spokes in a hub,” said Rob Land, JetBlue’s senior vice president of government affairs and associate general counsel.
Beyond the proposed 12 slot pairs, JetBlue and American Airlines have finalized a permanent transfer of eight DCA slot pairs from American to JetBlue. Those pairs were part of a Department of Justice settlement and have been operated by JetBlue on a temporary basis since 2010.
The expansion reflects JetBlue’s strategy to increase nonstop service and provide more competitive, affordable options from Reagan National. By targeting routes that are currently underserved at DCA, the airline aims to offer travelers additional direct connections that reduce the need to connect through other hub airports.
Pending regulatory approval, the new and transferred slots will allow JetBlue to strengthen its presence at Reagan National while keeping schedules focused on customer demand and efficient use of airport capacity. Travelers in the Washington, D.C. region can expect more nonstop choices and greater flexibility in planning trips to destinations that have lacked direct service from DCA.
