Virgin Atlantic will increase capacity on its London Heathrow (LHR) to Vancouver (YVR) route next summer to meet rising demand. The airline plans to add Sunday flights to its seasonal schedule from May 22 to Oct. 11, 2014, raising the number of weekly services from four to five during the peak season. This change will provide approximately 2,000 additional seats to British Columbia.
Edmond Rose, director of airline planning at Virgin Atlantic, noted that North America remains a core market for the carrier. Since launching the Vancouver route in 2012, the service has been consistently popular in summer months, carrying 17,214 passengers to date. The added flights aim to accommodate this steady demand and offer greater flexibility for travelers between London and Vancouver.
With the extra capacity, the airline expects to better serve leisure and business travelers heading to Vancouver, particularly during the busy summer period. Increasing frequency on the route also supports connectivity between the UK and the West Coast of Canada, making it easier for passengers to find convenient travel times and for the airline to optimize its seasonal operations.
