TAP Air Portugal Served a Record 16 Million Passengers Last Year

TAP Air Portugal transported nearly 16 million passengers last year, an increase of 1.5 million compared with 2017, representing year‑over‑year growth of 10.4 percent. This performance places TAP among the faster‑growing major airlines globally.

Routes to North America expanded by almost 10 percent in 2018, adding roughly 70,000 passengers for a total of about 800,000 travelers. To meet rising demand, TAP will significantly boost summer capacity: service between Newark (EWR) and Porto (OPO) will be tripled, and new seasonal or expanded flights will connect Lisbon (LIS) with Chicago (ORD), San Francisco (SFO) and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

European traffic also rose strongly, with an increase of more than 10 percent that translated to nearly 1 million additional passengers versus 2017, bringing the European total to almost 10 million.

The airline recorded notable growth on routes to South America and Africa as well, reflecting broader network expansion and stronger demand across multiple regions.
