Virgin Voyages: Ultimate Guide to the Adults-Only Cruise Experience

Following Alaska Airlines’ acquisition of Virgin America, Virgin founder Richard Branson unveiled his next project: Virgin Voyages. First conceived in 2015, the cruise line moved into production in Italian shipyards with plans to begin sailing in 2020. Its initial itineraries focus on seven-day voyages from Miami to destinations throughout the Caribbean.

Rather than brief, rushed stops, the routes emphasize extended stays at select islands so guests can engage more fully with local communities and cultural experiences. The line is positioning itself as a more mindful option for travelers who prefer immersive shore time over quick excursion-style visits.

Environmental sustainability is a central part of the concept. Onboard systems will reuse waste heat to generate electricity, among other measures intended to reduce the ships’ environmental footprint and make Virgin Voyages one of the more eco-conscious operators at sea.

Virgin Voyages plans to commission three ships, with a combined investment of $2.55 billion. Each vessel will accommodate roughly 2,800 passengers. Detailed design features and interior layouts remain under wraps and will be revealed closer to launch.
