Just a short, five-minute walk from Guildhall Square, the hotel is an ideal base for exploring Derry’s rich history. Derry is one of Ireland’s oldest continuously inhabited settlements, best known for its thick 17th-century stone walls that encircle the city.

The city also played a central role in modern Irish history. Visitors can explore The Bogside neighborhood, where key events of The Troubles unfolded. Murals, flags and public memorials throughout the city mark those moments and reflect international solidarity and shared struggles.

Walk the full length of Derry’s city walls for unobstructed views across the city, the Foyle and surrounding countryside. Inside the walls, the late-Victorian Guildhall offers exhibitions and striking period architecture. Fans of the television series Derry Girls will spot a large mural on Orchard Street and can see related props displayed at the Tower Museum through 2024.

Derry is also the site of Bloody Sunday, the tragic 1972 incident in which British soldiers shot unarmed civil rights marchers. The Museum of Free Derry provides a thoughtful, immersive account of that day, documenting the events leading up to it, the aftermath and the continuing impact on the community.

With its combination of historic character, cultural sites and new luxury accommodations, the Ebrington Hotel places visitors at the heart of Derry’s past and present, making it a practical and comfortable base for discovery and reflection.
