Four Seasons to Open New European Resorts in Late 2017

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, a lifestyle company, have announced plans for the first Four Seasons mountain destination in continental Europe. Scheduled to open in late 2017, the resort aims to welcome guests in time for the winter ski season.

Located in Megève, an iconic Alpine destination, the project will include a new mountainside property, Four Seasons Hotel, Megève, alongside the historic Mont d’Arbois village. Megève is known for more than 130 alpine runs, reliable snowfall and varied terrain, making it a favorite for skiers of all levels. Importantly, this Four Seasons property will be the town’s first hotel to offer direct access to the Mont d’Arbois slopes.

The hotel will offer 55 rooms positioned at the base of the Mont d’Arbois mountains, creating a cozy, ski-focused retreat for guests. In addition to the main hotel, a selection of existing village chalets will be carefully renovated and reopened under the Four Seasons banner, providing a second accommodation option in the heart of Megève’s historic center. These chalets will combine modern comforts with the village’s authentic charm, letting guests enjoy both the slopes and the local heritage.

J. Allen Smith, president and chief executive officer of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, noted the significance of the partnership with the de Rothschild family, who have long ties to Megève. He emphasized the intent to preserve the history and character of Mont d’Arbois while introducing Four Seasons’ signature personalized service. The new resort is designed to blend Alpine tradition with contemporary luxury, aiming to offer an experience that highlights Megève’s blend of charm, sophistication and year-round appeal for discerning travelers from Europe and beyond.

Four Seasons will operate the renovated hotel and chalets, as well as four dining venues and the 18-hole Golf du Mont d’Arbois, a course originally designed by Sir Henry Cotton. Together, these elements are intended to create a comprehensive mountain resort that serves both winter skiers and guests seeking seasonal retreats throughout the year.
