Costa Rica’s First Year-Round Luxury Tented Resort Opens

The first year-round tented resort in the Americas will open as Nayara Tented Resort in Costa Rica during the first quarter of 2017. Set within the lush surroundings of Arenal Volcano National Park, the property introduces a refined, sustainable option for guests seeking immersive nature experiences without sacrificing comfort.

Developed through a collaboration between Luxury Frontiers, a specialist in designing and building luxury tented suites and treetop accommodations, and Nayara Hotels, the new resort expands Nayara’s presence beyond its acclaimed Arenal Nayara and Nayara Springs properties. The partnership leverages Luxury Frontiers’ expertise in lightweight, low-impact structures and Nayara’s established reputation for exceptional service and local knowledge.

The resort comprises 24 private tented suites, each set on its own platform and spanning approximately 945 square feet. Every tent features a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, an outdoor living area and a private plunge pool replenished by nearby hot springs. The layout and amenities aim to blend indoor comfort with outdoor living, giving guests direct access to the surrounding rainforest and volcanic landscapes.

“This development provides Nayara Hotels with a ‘light-on-earth’ solution that makes thoughtful use of existing land to deliver a memorable, immersive stay for guests,” said Luca Franco, founder and managing partner of Luxury Frontiers. The design emphasizes minimal environmental impact while maximizing the guest connection to nature.

Sustainability is central to the resort’s design. Construction and operations incorporate locally and sustainably sourced materials, aerobic sewage treatment, rainwater capture systems and renewable energy where feasible. These elements are intended to reduce resource consumption and preserve the site’s ecological integrity while offering modern comforts.

Luxury Frontiers brings a diverse portfolio of tented and eco-sensitive projects to the collaboration. Past projects include Lemala Kuria Hills in Tanzania, Musangu Lodge in Zambia and Shakawe River Lodge in Botswana, along with resort integrations such as an add-on for Gran Hotel Son Net in Mallorca, Spain, and a full refurbishment of Belmond Eagle Island Lodge in Botswana. The company continues to expand its work through partnerships with high-end hospitality brands.

Future developments on Luxury Frontiers’ roadmap include collaborations with globally recognized luxury operators across multiple continents, with projects planned or underway in the United States, Colombia, Tanzania and Botswana. These initiatives aim to replicate the blend of luxury, sustainability and site-sensitive design that defines the Nayara Tented Resort concept.

The opening of Nayara Tented Resort marks a notable addition to Costa Rica’s accommodation offerings, appealing to travelers who prioritize both environmental responsibility and immersive, high-end nature experiences.
