Women-Only Iceland Trek: Arctic Adventures Announces New Guided Expedition

This summer, lace up your hiking boots and join a small-group adventure designed for women. Running from July through August, this four-day trek with Arctic Adventures follows the iconic Laugavegur Trail, a 34.2-mile route across Iceland’s central Highlands from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk.

Rather than concentrating on speed or distance, this trip emphasizes shared experiences and exploring remote interior landscapes that are accessible only during the short summer season. Along the Laugavegur Trail, hikers encounter dramatic landscapes shaped by centuries of volcanic activity: multicolored rhyolite mountains, lava fields, and sweeping valleys that reveal Iceland’s raw, geological power.

Expect a rich variety of scenery: moss-covered slopes, black-sand deserts, lush valleys, glacial rivers, and steaming geothermal vents. The itinerary includes walking the obsidian desert of Hrafntinnusker, traversing the black-sand plains at Emstrur, and pausing at the tranquil lake Álftavatn—each stop offering a distinct perspective on Iceland’s natural diversity.

“There’s a comfort that comes from exploring in a group of women,” says Rebecca McCall, product manager at Arctic Adventures. “This trek is about appreciating the landscape, supporting one another in small ways, and letting connections grow naturally along the trail.”

The trek is open to hikers aged 15 and older and is led by an English-speaking female guide. It suits those comfortable with walking four to nine hours a day over varied terrain and in changing weather, carrying a day pack. The package includes transportation to and from the trail, all meals, luggage transport between campsites, and pick-up and drop-off in Reykjavík. Nights are spent in comfortable private expedition tents, providing a blend of outdoor adventure and basic comfort.

Participants can look forward to thoughtful group dynamics, scenic highlights unique to the Highlands, and the reassurance of experienced leadership on a trail renowned for its dramatic contrasts. Whether you’re seeking fresh challenges, meaningful connections with fellow hikers, or the chance to witness Iceland’s volcanic landscapes up close, this women-only Laugavegur trek offers an immersive summer experience.
