THE SIGNATURE PERFECT MASSAGE — the name says it all. It describes many spa treatments, and it also summed up my 80-minute experience at The Spa at Sandpearl Resort.
I was in Clearwater Beach for a friend’s wedding and, on the morning of the ceremony after several days of enjoying the local bars, restaurants and pools, I wanted a few quiet hours to unwind and recharge before the celebration.
The AAA Four-Diamond Sandpearl Resort sits prominently along the beachfront. I arrived late on a Sunday morning and, walking past the resort’s striking pool area toward the spa, could sense guests savoring the last moments of a weekend escape.
Beyond the spa, the resort offers coastal-inspired guest rooms and suites; Caretta on the Gulf, the only Four-Diamond restaurant on Clearwater Beach; two additional dining outlets; a range of enrichment programs; 25,000 square feet of modern event space; and a curated art collection. Sandpearl also holds a notable environmental record as the first Silver LEED–certified resort in Florida, with programs that improve energy efficiency, indoor air quality and water and natural resource conservation. Clean the World recycles leftover soap and shampoo to reduce waste and provide essentials to underserved communities.
Sandpearl is clearly designed to accommodate many types of travelers, and that warm Sunday morning it met my expectations.
The Spa at Sandpearl creates a calming atmosphere from the moment you enter. The reception area, painted in a warm beige, feels personal rather than crowded; an orchid adds a touch of color to the tiled desk. Inside, dimly lit rooms in muted tones of beige, brown and white foster tranquility. A large therapeutic whirlpool and cool showers invite guests to relax before or after treatment, and loungers surround the water for quiet rest. The spa also provides private relaxation rooms and steam rooms. In addition to seven treatment rooms, deluxe couple’s suites feature Swiss showers. The spa menu is complemented by a fitness center, yoga and tai chi classes, bridal makeup and hairstyling, and waxing services.

The spa’s philosophy, reflected in its treatment menu and calm spaces, emphasizes reconnecting guests with their inner selves and the natural world. Many treatments are tailored to the individual, as with my Signature Perfect Massage. My therapist—referred to at Sandpearl as a spa artisan—designed the session to address my specific needs and preferences, drawing on a variety of techniques.
Other Signature-branded offerings include the 80-minute Body Ritual, which combines dry brushing, exfoliation and a full-body massage; the Facial Radiance treatment, which targets firmness, elasticity and hydration with anti-aging technologies; indulgent manicure and pedicure services with skin-softening treatments and a paraffin mask; and the Ritual, an approximately six-hour package that includes Body Renewal, a facial and nail services.
For massages, I typically request extra attention to my shoulders, calves, feet and scalp—scalp work being my ultimate indulgence. I usually prefer light pressure for deep relaxation unless a specific area needs more focus. Based on my preferences, my therapist blended Swedish and Lomi Lomi techniques. Both styles emphasize long, flowing strokes that promote relaxation while working gently into muscle tissue.
Swedish massage uses strokes directed toward the heart to support circulation, and Lomi Lomi is often called a “loving hands” massage for its nurturing, rhythmic motions—both felt perfectly suited for a day when I would soon be a guest at a wedding.
As I left, I picked up a spa brochure and found a small piece of advice I’ve kept since that visit: remember to step back and breathe. After discovering your radiant center during a treatment, the spa encourages you to embrace that calm and carry it with you wherever your travels take you.
