Turkey Passport Rules 2026: New Entry, Visa, and Residency Changes

Travelers planning to visit Turkey should be aware of the country’s passport validity requirements. All foreign visitors must hold passports that remain valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiration date of their visa, visa-exemption period, or residency permit in order to be permitted entry.

For arrivals prior to Dec. 31, passports must already meet the 60-day rule measured from the visa, visa-exemption period, or residency permit expiry date. For example, a traveler leaving Turkey on Aug. 29 whose visa expires on Aug. 29 should have a passport valid through at least Oct. 28.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, this same 60-day requirement applies consistently: if a traveler’s visa or visa-exemption period expires on May 20, 2015, the passport must be valid through at least July 20, 2015.

Visitors who do not meet these passport-validity requirements will be denied entry to Turkey, so travelers should check passport expiration dates well in advance and renew documents as needed to avoid travel disruption.
