Scandinavian Airlines is introducing free, high-speed in-flight WiFi through a partnership with Starlink, the SpaceX-engineered satellite network. Using a large constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink will deliver low-latency, high-bandwidth internet to SAS passengers across all travel classes. The airline plans a phased rollout and expects the entire fleet to be equipped by the end of 2025.

“By introducing this new technology, we’re connecting our passengers to the world like never before,” said Paul Verhagen, CCO of SAS. “We’re putting an end to frustrating interruptions and ushering in a new era of connectivity. Whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast. This is about giving our customers the best and ensuring SAS remains synonymous with excellence.”
The Starlink connection will be available from the moment passengers board and remain active until they disembark, improving on previous systems that only activated after takeoff and deactivated during descent. This continuous coverage is designed to eliminate gaps in service during taxiing, gate waits, and the final approach.
Designed to handle multiple simultaneous users, the new system will support smartphones, tablets and laptops so travelers can stream, work, video conference and browse without compromise. SAS emphasizes that the upgrade aims to enhance both productivity and in-flight entertainment, catering to business travelers and leisure passengers alike.
SAS has framed the move as part of a broader effort to improve the passenger experience through technology. Offering free, stable internet aligns with current expectations for connectivity and positions the airline to better meet customer needs for real-time communication, entertainment and work during flights.
The phased installation will allow SAS to test and optimize the service across aircraft types and routes before the full fleet conversion is complete. Passengers can expect the rollout to appear gradually in booking notifications and pre-flight communications as individual aircraft are fitted with the new equipment.
With the adoption of Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network, Scandinavian Airlines joins a growing group of carriers seeking to offer reliable, high-performance connectivity in the sky. SAS says the initiative reflects its commitment to customer satisfaction and operational innovation, ensuring passengers enjoy a modern travel experience with consistent access to online services throughout their journey.
