Qatar Airways has announced a number of new routes for the coming year, expanding its global network to include Canberra, Australia — the carrier’s fifth destination in Australia — and Las Vegas (LAS), its 11th U.S. route. The Las Vegas service will join existing and planned connections to Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston Bush Intercontinental (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Philadelphia (PHL) and Washington Dulles (IAD).
The Doha-based airline will introduce eight additional routes in 2017: Canberra, Australia (CBR); Dublin, Ireland (DUB); Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (GIG); Santiago, Chile (SCL); Medan, Indonesia (KNO); and two Saudi Arabian destinations, Tabuk (TUU) and Yanbu (YNB). Qatar Airways has not yet specified start dates for these new services.
“Qatar Airways offers the world the best network, the best onboard experience and the best connecting experience at Hamad International Airport,” said Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of the Qatar Airways Group. “We operate one of the youngest fleets in the industry, averaging around five years old, and we fly technologically advanced aircraft that deliver an award-winning experience while also offering efficient and environmentally considerate operations.”
In 2016 the airline opened 13 new routes, most recently launching service to Krabi (KBV) on Dec. 6, with Seychelles (SEZ) scheduled to begin service Dec. 12.
“We will be able to connect more people to more places than any other Gulf airline, and we will ensure our passengers delight in the journey,” Al Baker added. “At Qatar Airways, we are going places together with our passengers, and we look forward to welcoming these new destinations in 2017.”
