The Pierre New York Review: Luxury Stay at a Taj Hotel

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: It was the rainiest week of the fall in New York City the day I arrived for work. I took a lightly populated Amtrak into Moynihan Train Hall on a Tuesday afternoon, then quickly hailed a cab to my destination: The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, located along Central Park. A bellman unloaded my luggage and guided me past an impressive floral display and the concierge desk to the polished marble reception area, where classic New York elegance was evident. Check-in was efficient, and an elevator attendant escorted guests to the elevators as I rode up to the 11th floor.

GUEST QUARTERS: The room combined timeless elegance with modern comforts. The elevator attendant set the tone, and small details throughout the guestroom reflected a blend of classic and contemporary hospitality. My room featured a king-size bed dressed in a rich palette of greens and pinks, with a nightstand on one side and a desk on the other. A large dresser beneath the television housed a minibar stocked with a tasteful selection of treats. The bathroom was compact but functional, offering both a shower and a bathtub with a petite vanity suitable for one. I used an additional shelf for my toiletries. The room included a single closet with shelves, hangers and a safe for valuables.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: Dining options at The Pierre include Perrine, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as Two E Bar and Lounge. Our work event was held in Two E and impressed with both food and beverage service. Two E, the hotel’s jazz bar, focuses on elevated small plates and handcrafted cocktails, and live jazz enhances the atmosphere on select evenings. I also ordered room service for lunch; the menu is provided by Perrine and the service was prompt.

Wellness amenities extend beyond a well-equipped fitness center. The hotel partners with Suite Reyad Salon, allowing guests to book salon services on-site or in-room with advance arrangements.

The Pierre is renowned for its event spaces, offering roughly 18,000 square feet across multiple venues. The recently renovated Grand Ballroom remains a premier choice for luxury events in the city.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • Prime location adjacent to Central Park, straddling Midtown and the Upper East Side, puts many city attractions within easy reach.
  • Regular live jazz performances enliven Two E Lounge, typically running Thursday through Sunday.
  • Guestroom bathrooms are finished with Turkish marble, adding a refined and luxurious touch.
