Westin Opens First Hotel in Maine: What to Expect

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has brought its acclaimed Westin brand to Portland, Maine with the reopening of The Westin Portland Harborview. The historic property, previously operated as the Eastland Hotel, completed an 18-month, $50 million restoration and reopened as a Westin after an extensive renovation that preserved the building’s character while updating guest facilities.

Situated in the heart of Portland’s Arts District and offering scenic views of the waterfront, the hotel provides 289 guestrooms and suites designed for comfort and relaxation. Guests can enjoy two on-site dining venues that showcase local flavors and a full-service spa offering restorative treatments. The Westin Portland Harborview incorporates the brand’s signature amenities and wellness programs aimed at helping guests feel refreshed and energized during their stay.

“We are delighted to expand the Westin brand’s reach to the vibrant city of Portland, the cultural hub of Maine,” said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader for Westin Hotels & Resorts and Le Méridien. He noted that the Harborview property gives travelers the opportunity to rejuvenate in a scenic, waterfront setting while enjoying Westin’s hallmark services and offerings.

The restoration balanced historic preservation with modern upgrades, enhancing public spaces, guest rooms and service areas to meet contemporary expectations. Its location in the Arts District places guests within easy walking distance of galleries, performance venues, dining, and cultural attractions, making the hotel a convenient base for both leisure and business travelers.

By introducing the Westin brand to Portland, Starwood aims to strengthen its presence in New England while offering visitors an elevated hospitality option that combines local character with the global standards and wellness-focused initiatives Westin is known for.
