DFW Airport Completes Phase I Renovation of Terminal A

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and American Airlines have finished the first phase of a seven-year, $2.3 billion modernization program. Phase I focused on renovating a section of Terminal A, covering gates A8 through A16.

American Airlines introduced a “next generation” airport design that improves check-in and ticketing areas and offers redesigned services for premium passengers.

Highlights of the updated portion of Terminal A include centralized checkpoints and concession areas arranged around the Skylink people-mover stations, two baggage claim zones with digital signage, an expanded TSA checkpoint featuring four security lanes, and a larger post-security area for repacking. The renovation also added upgraded heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems along with a modern lighting installation.

Work on Terminal A will continue in two more phases, with completion of all three phases—including the Terminal A parking facility—expected in late 2014. The broader program to renew Terminals A, B, C, and E is scheduled for completion in 2017.
