Arrival/Check-in: The doorman escorted me directly from the taxi to a seat beside an indoor pond, where chilled towels and hibiscus tea were offered. Fresh, fragrant flower petals decorated the furniture and fixtures throughout the open-air lobby. Friendly staff brought the check-in paperwork and orientation materials to me, and after a brief tour of the grounds I was escorted to my room and reunited with my luggage.
Guest Quarters: On entering my room I found a dish of candy labeled with my name on the writing desk, along with chocolate-covered strawberries and slices of fresh fruit. Marble floors, white plaster columns and warm honey-colored walls reinforced the property’s Mexican character. The standout design element was the bed, backed by a large illuminated seashell relief replacing a traditional headboard.
The room offered a reliable, fast wireless connection—noticeably better than other hotspots I used in Puerto Vallarta. Power outlets for laptop and mobile devices were plentiful and convenient. A large flat-screen TV sat on a cabinet that concealed a small refrigerator, a coffeemaker and a selection of snacks. During nightly turndown the TV was set to a moody, looping art film that I found enjoyable. The bathroom included a generous marble sink, an in-bathroom phone and an expansive walk-in shower. While the shower’s size was impressive, water temperature could be inconsistent at times.
Services/Amenities: With just 80 guestrooms and an adults-only policy, the boutique resort maintained a peaceful, intimate atmosphere—ideal for a romantic escape or focused work time. Rather than sitting directly on the beach, Casa Velas is surrounded by tropical jungle and an 18-hole golf course. An oceanfront beach club with dining is accessible via a five-minute shuttle. The pool area felt tranquil and offered chances to observe local wildlife such as iguanas and peacocks. A poolside bar served wine, cocktails and light fare, and tequila-tasting demonstrations were held near the pool. Facilities include a well-equipped gym, a salon and a spacious spa; I enjoyed a soothing 50-minute holistic massage during my stay.
The on-site restaurant Emiliano delivers thoughtfully prepared gourmet dishes and desserts, and room service was reliable. Shuttle service provides easy access to additional dining options at Grand Velas, the beach club and the Velas Vallarta sister property.
The Experience: Private, tranquil and lush, Casa Velas provided an excellent all-inclusive-style environment for work, relaxation and recreation in Puerto Vallarta. Throughout my stay the staff ensured I felt comfortable and well cared for.
