The Dean Galway recently opened in the western coastal city of Galway, bringing a bold new hospitality destination to Ireland’s west. The 5,000-square-foot property sensitively incorporates historic elements of the city, including part of the 19th-century Galway–Clifden railway tunnel and an original 19th-century stone building.

Designed by Lawrence and Long Architecture, the hotel presents a striking limestone façade. The stone has been finished with alternating bush-hammered and sand-blasted textures to create a dramatic contrast of light and dark that complements the historic streetscape.
The Dean Galway contains 100 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites across the upper ground, first and second floors. Each room blends contemporary comforts with character: rainfall showers, fully stocked Smeg fridges, smart TVs, luxury Brooks & Co. toiletries, and a curated box of sweet and savory Irish snacks and drinks. Many rooms also include a record player and vinyl for a touch of analog charm.

For larger groups or a special occasion, the penthouse accommodates up to eight guests and features a standalone copper bath, an expansive living area and a private balcony. The property also offers The Blue Room, an atmospheric event space on the lower ground floor that overlooks an inner courtyard — ideal for gatherings, meetings and private events.
Wellness and leisure are central to the guest experience. The hotel provides an outdoor heated pool and will soon open POWER Gym, a boutique, high-end health club billed as the first of its kind in Galway City. The gym integrates original vaulted brickwork from the former railway tunnel into its design and will offer world-class fitness facilities alongside a sauna and steam room.

Equipped with an awning, outdoor heaters and comfortable seating, Sophie’s serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with a menu that blends international influences and Irish ingredients for memorable dining throughout the day.
