JetBlue and South African Airways Announce New Codeshare Partnership

JetBlue and South African Airways have expanded their partnership with a new codeshare agreement linking their North American and African networks through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Washington Dulles (IAD) and Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB). This arrangement builds on an interline relationship that has existed between the two carriers since 2010 and brings greater connectivity and ticketing convenience for travelers between the United States and southern Africa.

Under the terms of the agreement, JetBlue will place its B6 code on South African Airways-operated flights between the U.S. and both Johannesburg and Dakar, Senegal (DKR). In addition, JetBlue’s code will appear on South African Airways’ domestic connections from Johannesburg to several South African cities, including Cape Town (CPT), Durban (DUR), East London (ELS) and Port Elizabeth (PLZ). These codeshare flights allow customers to book a single ticket for itineraries that combine JetBlue and South African Airways sectors, simplifying baggage transfer and through check-in where permitted.

Reciprocally, South African Airways will place its SA code on JetBlue-operated services from its U.S. gateways to key destinations such as Boston (BOS), Las Vegas (LAS), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO). This reciprocal coding gives travelers in southern Africa improved access to JetBlue’s domestic U.S. network via Johannesburg and the U.S. gateways served through the partnership.

Scott Laurence, vice president of network planning and partnerships for JetBlue, noted the significance of the agreement, highlighting JetBlue’s strong presence at JFK and the expanded options it provides for passengers traveling between the two regions. The codeshare is intended to enhance schedule choices and make multi-carrier itineraries smoother for leisure and business travelers alike.

The expanded cooperation between JetBlue and South African Airways aims to streamline connections, improve booking flexibility and offer more seamless travel experiences across the Atlantic. Passengers should consult each carrier’s booking channels for specific routings, fare rules and baggage policies, as these can vary by airline and itinerary.
