South African Airways has increased capacity on the route between Johannesburg (JNB) and the popular leisure destination of Victoria Falls (VFA).
The airline recently introduced the Airbus A330-200 wide-body aircraft on this route, adding roughly 60 percent more seat capacity each day in each direction. The A330-200 carries 222 passengers in a two-class layout: 36 premium business-class seats and 186 economy-class seats. These services provide convenient connections to and from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.
“We are pleased to bring the comfort and convenience of our A330-200 to Victoria Falls as the first and only wide-body aircraft to serve the market on a scheduled basis,” said Todd Neuman, executive vice president, Americas, South African Airways. “Victoria Falls is a leading Zimbabwean destination for North American travelers, and this aircraft will enable SAA to accommodate the growth in tourism the market is experiencing.”
The deployment of the A330-200 coincides with growing tourism demand to Zimbabwe and follows a $150 million investment to upgrade facilities at Victoria Falls Airport. The airport has opened a new terminal and completed other essential infrastructure improvements to better handle increased passenger numbers.
Regional partner Airlink will also expand service to Victoria Falls. Beginning July 2, Airlink will operate non-stop flights between Cape Town (CPT) and Victoria Falls six days a week using 27-passenger Embraer regional jets.
