American Express has announced a new partnership with Facebook to communicate with cardholders through Facebook Messenger. This integration lets cardmembers receive real-time notifications about purchases, benefits, and services directly in Messenger. The messages are designed to be practical and timely—for example, after booking a flight, cardholders might receive information about American Express Centurion Lounges, or they could get dining recommendations for the city they’re visiting.
The service will begin as a pilot program in the coming months, and eligible cardholders will be able to opt in to participate. Dave Wolf, vice president of digital partnerships and development at American Express, said the collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship with Facebook and aims to create a convenient, useful experience for cardmembers on a platform they already use. He noted that the Messenger platform’s scale and flexibility make it a compelling channel for helping members track purchases and take full advantage of their card benefits.
David Marcus, vice president of messaging products at Facebook, added that people are likely to appreciate the ease and convenience of viewing purchases and related benefits within Messenger. He expressed enthusiasm about working with American Express to bring this new, innovative experience to cardmembers.
