Munich Airport Live Update: Flight Status, Delays & Terminal Info

Munich Airport’s New Satellite Terminal
A new satellite passenger terminal at Munich Airport is scheduled to open this spring, boosting annual capacity by 11 million passengers and more than doubling Terminal 2’s pierside aircraft positions from 24 to 51. Because the satellite is not accessible to the public, check-in, passport control, and security screening will remain in Terminal 2. After completing formalities, passengers will transfer to the satellite via an underground transport system in under one minute.

On arrival in the new terminal, passengers will find a variety of modern services and amenities designed for comfort, convenience, and efficiency. Quiet zones with reclining seating provide a restful environment for travelers who want to relax. Free WLAN, plentiful power outlets, and USB connections let passengers work or stay connected while they wait. Four showers in the gate area are available to anyone wishing to freshen up before long-haul flights. Families benefit from clearly marked play areas where children can expend energy, and baby changing tables are provided in both men’s and women’s restrooms.

The terminal will include five new Lufthansa lounges. The Senator and Business lounges on the Non-Schengen level feature a shared panoramic bar serving cold and hot beverages, specialty coffees, and cocktails. Both lounges also offer buffets, dedicated work areas, a TV zone, and comfortable showers. Unaccompanied minors have a dedicated lounge with home-like comforts, including a foosball table, large cushions, networked PCs, and a play corner. Passengers with mobility restrictions can use a dedicated accessible lounge with four special lounge chairs, fully accessible toilets, a shower, and a selection of newspapers, magazines, and television.

A central marketplace will form the heart of the new terminal, an open, naturally lit area around the apron tower that introduces a fresh shopping and dining concept. The marketplace blends Bavarian hospitality and traditions with Munich’s contemporary lifestyle and advanced technology. The Lenbachs tower bar, inspired by painter Franz von Lenbach, serves as the focal point of the marketplace. Schubeck’s “Viktualienmarkt,” modeled after Munich’s famous outdoor market, will offer high-quality snacks for immediate enjoyment or packaged for take-away. “Sissi & Franz” reinterprets Vienna’s coffeehouse culture and courtly culinary traditions, creating a bridge between Bavarian and Austrian tastes. In total, the satellite will house 16 retail stores, three Duty Free shops, and seven dining venues, showcasing Munich Airport’s hospitality and retail concept.
