Just in time for its 50th anniversary in 2026, Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill has reopened after a comprehensive redesign. Situated just 1,287 steps from the U.S. Capitol Building, the hotel’s lobby, lounges, guestrooms, suites and meeting spaces have all been thoughtfully refreshed to offer modern comfort while honoring the property’s history.

“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our nine-month transformation to provide international and domestic travelers and local residents with new, more refined accommodations, enhanced culinary experiences, and modernized conference and event spaces for meetings and groups,” said Randy Thompson, general manager of Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The renovation celebrates the hotel’s 50-year legacy as a central hotel and event destination on Capitol Hill while drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship that shaped the U.S. Capitol and surrounding neighborhoods.
The arrival experience centers on a sunken lobby and grand atrium, where curated work areas nod to the blacksmithing and ironwork integral to the Capitol’s design. Across 840 guestrooms and suites, the redesign emphasizes a sophisticated palette of warm wood tones and black metal accents. Rooms feature state-of-the-art technology, generous storage, and premium beds and bathrooms. Subtle details—like contemporary interpretations of antique lamps and rivet-style metalwork on headboards and sconces—reference the ironwork of the Capitol dome.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Article One – American Grill, was updated as part of the renovation. Focusing on Mid-Atlantic cuisine, the menu features items such as seared local striped bass and Maryland crab cake sandwiches, alongside playful location-inspired dishes like Senate Bean Soup, State Tacos and Capital Charcuterie. The beverage program highlights craft cocktails, regional beers and a curated whiskey selection. Private dining options are available for meetings and special events.

Members of the World of Hyatt program and guests in Club Lounge rooms can enjoy the redesigned Regency Club, where natural wood finishes and textured wall coverings create a welcoming environment for relaxing, light bites and beverages. The hotel’s upgraded fitness center and indoor pool support guests’ wellness routines, while event planners benefit from Capitol Hill’s largest ballroom and more than 38,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
With its updated design and enhanced amenities, Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill aims to serve both business and leisure travelers, offering a blend of contemporary comfort and thoughtful references to the area’s historic craftsmanship.
