Lynx Air Expands Domestic Routes: New Canadian Destinations Announced

Low-cost air travel in Canada has faced challenges for years. The country’s vast distances, relatively small population and high airport and landing fees discouraged many budget carriers from operating widely here.

Calgary-based low-cost carrier Lynx Air has begun expanding its network across Canada. The airline’s announced routes include St. John’s (Newfoundland), Halifax, Toronto, Hamilton (Ontario), Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary. Kelowna (British Columbia) was added to the schedule on April 15 and Victoria (British Columbia) will begin service on May 12.

Lynx Air operates a fleet of new Boeing 737 aircraft that meet international safety standards and are certified by Transport Canada.

The airline launched its inaugural Calgary–Vancouver route in April, and it is steadily adding destinations. The full slate of city pairs is planned to be in service by July.

“We are excited to be announcing expansion plans of our Toronto flights, providing Toronto travelers with more choice and competition as they seek to reconnect with family and friends, and discover more of this beautiful country,” said Merren McArthur, CEO of Lynx Air. “By the end of July, we will be flying 92 flights per week in and out of the Toronto area, which is more than 17,000 seats per week.”

By summer, Lynx Air expects to operate 148 flights per week across Canada, providing more than 27,000 seats weekly on coast-to-coast routes.
