Sofitel London St. James Unveils Two Reimagined Flagship Suites

Sofitel London St. James has unveiled two reimagined flagship suites, Suite 70 and the Opera Suite, completing the hotel’s multi-phase redesign by Pierre-Yves Rochon. Both suites reflect Sofitel’s tradition of blending French art de vivre with local London culture, offering distinct interpretations of 1970s style and sophistication.

Suite 70 pays direct tribute to the creative energy of the 1970s. The suite’s palette draws from iconic decade hues—burnt orange, deep green, black, brown and crisp white—balanced to create a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. Custom furnishings, including bedside tables that extend into dressing tables, carpets and rugs by Edition 169, and bathroom fixtures developed with Devon & Devon, anchor the space with refined details and craftsmanship.

At the heart of Suite 70 is the Experience Bar, conceived as a concert trunk lined with vinyl records and complemented by wall art and accessories inspired by concert posters and album covers of the 1970s. A vintage-style record player and a saxophone complete the immersive musical theme, creating a social focal point for guests.

The suite’s amenities are designed for comfort and convenience: a dining table for up to four guests, a curated sleep menu, separate bathtub and rain shower, bathrobe and slippers, a guest bathroom, Diptyque bathroom amenities, the exclusive Sofitel MyBed, and additional thoughtful touches throughout the space.

The Opera Suite offers a more refined and softened take on the same era, with views over Waterloo Place and a softer color scheme of nude, pale pink, taupe, camel and ivory. The suite features iconic mid-century pieces like the Tulip chair by Knoll and armchairs by Pierre Paulin, paired with a pale pink suede headboard, a sculptural in-room bar and a suspended library and mirror for an elegant, sculptural feel.

The Opera Suite includes a master bedroom and an expansive dining room that seats up to 12 guests, an open-plan kitchen, a separate guest toilet, a sleep menu, separate bathtub and rain shower, bathrobe and slippers, a super king-sized Sofitel MyBed, Diptyque bathroom amenities, and other premium comforts designed for entertaining and relaxation.

Both suites feature bespoke art collections curated by VISTO, showcasing works by emerging and established artists whose pieces reflect London’s cultural landscape during the 1970s. These curated artworks enhance each suite’s narrative and connect guests to the city’s creative history.

Together, Suite 70 and the Opera Suite complete the hotel’s transformation, offering distinct yet complementary experiences that fuse period-inspired design with modern luxury and practical amenities, all rooted in Sofitel’s signature French hospitality.
