KLM Marks 80 Years of New York–Amsterdam Flights

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines marks the 80th anniversary of its inaugural flight between Amsterdam (AMS) and New York City (LGA) on May 21, 1946, a milestone that established it as the first European carrier to offer scheduled service between Europe and the United States.

To honor this milestone, KLM has teamed up with The New-York Historical Society for a special pop-up exhibit and a limited-edition Delft Blue miniature house modeled after the museum’s building. The exhibit, open now through May 27, features artifacts from KLM’s archives such as historic menus and in-flight magazines, along with archival video footage and a display highlighting the Delft house.

“KLM Royal Dutch Airlines opened the door to a new era of transatlantic travel and global connectivity by becoming the first European airline to connect Europe with the United States. Our pioneering spirit still defines us today as we continue to innovate in aviation,” said Marjan Rintel, president and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. “We are proud of the role we play in bringing people, cultures, and economies closer together through a memorable travel experience. This anniversary highlights the enduring bond between New York and the Netherlands, which remains one of our most important gateways.”
